Preface The numbering system used in this report basically follows that of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly System. Three types of numbers are used for each individual: (1) an unique identifying Arabic number for each individual; (2) a small Roman numeral that indicates, if known, the birth order of the child within a family; and (3) a superscript generation number with the earliest known Robinson ancestor assigned the number one. A plus sign before a name means that person is discussed at greater length later in the report. Footnotes have been converted to Endnotes in this version of the report. Footnotes are included as a means of citing sources and to include information of interest but not necessarily integral to Robinson genealogy. Public records often contain errors and transcriptions of these records frequently introduce additional errors. Much information has been taken from the various census records. These census records are invaluable but very often contain major errors, especially wrong ages and places of birth. Often the name is written phonetically and occasionally is obviously in error. I suggest many of these errors can be attributed to the informant simply guessing when giving information to the census taker. A synopsis of the information included in the various censuses is included at the end of this report.
